I Mean REALLY

Okay, so now I have a blog....one of the millions of opinionates that are trying to change this troubled country with their biases. It is March 11, the first day of the new Daylight Savings Time, and I have been cheated out of an hour. I will rail against that when I have more energy. What I will talk about in my inaugural entry is what I have seen today. I watched Borat, The Best Week Ever, The Soup, Real Time with Bill Maher and Girls Will Be Girls. The conclusion: this society is in decline. Not because the fringes of society are glamorized, but because what is now mainstream is so fringy. I was watching Borat with my friend and muse Ivan and discussed how irrational this nation has become. Truthfully, I blame Reagan. I read an bio of Thatcher where she warned the Reaganuts about Islamic fundamentalist terrorism in 1985. And we still gave money to the people that 16 years later would turn against us in a spectacular fashion. How stupid WAS this guy?
So no one saw the FBI abuses of the Patriot Act coming? I mean really. The venal creatures with which we refuse to make eye contact at the bus stop are the same people that are running the nation, our religions, our corporations and our hospitals. We cannot have faith in individuals...that's what the Founding Fathers were trying to tell us.
When I was in high school, I wrote an essay for a scholarship from the Governor of Virginia...Baliles, maybe? Anyway, I think that the pupose of this project was to lionize political figure just to prove that I was completely brainwashed. I wrote my essay praising Machiavelli on his assessment of human nature, and how the prince could manipulate them for his own ends and the public good. Needless to say, I didn't get the scholarship.Back to Borat. Sacha Baron Cohen's filmic roll of the dice uncovered characters that reinforced an underlying theme of the American Culture, painfully suspicious and addicted to watching others self-destruct. Do you think that if we all had the power of Scanners, that anyone would be left alive? I guess my point is that how can we think for even the briefest of moments that we are not as a society, incapable of the evils that appeared in Europe 70 years ago? Our Constiution was based on a fundamental understanding of the corruptability of human nature. If we think that now our shit doesn't stink because our prettiest buildings were knocked down, then we're in serious trouble.Liberty surrendered is not easily won back.Oh, and as much as I love her, Roseanne was a one-note blabbermouth dominatrix on Bill Maher. Not one of his better shows.Just had a thought of W as Icarus...obsessed with doing, being more than his father, leading to his destruction. But he is taking us all a little to close to the Sun. We used to stand for something other than fear, people. Let's fight those who want to do us harm on our terms. If we do that, we will win. As a former president gaining in stature said, there is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed with what is right about America. You don't have to be a dope to believe that.More to come.
